Artificial hibernation

Using biotechnology to make Humans hibernate. It would slow down metabolism so that the person becomes unconscious, ages extremely slowly, with only a few heartbeats per minute and minutes between the breathes. A similar technology have been proved to work on rats (not natural hibernators). It has been suggested as a way to cope with long, slow space journeys. See BTC travel for an alternative solution.
